Character Name:
Zacadia “Zac” Ryilan
World breakdown:
The world of Altemera is a vast one, populated of three major landmasses with many islands interspersed among a wide ocean; a world governed by gods and goddesses above who from their celestial domains, guide and govern the lands and ideals they crafted. Here, by the gods will, magic is freely wielded by almost every living being in some way, shape, or form; bestowed through the star signs which signify where each god or goddess left this realm when their tasks were complete. To be born under their sign is to receive their favor and with it, the element they most embodied.
The story of Zacadia Ryilan however takes place on an island larger than most. Grand Meridia, a large trading hub between the three larger nations and by rights, a sovereign nation of its own under King Becklow and the five Grand Dukes under his command. The Island itself is of great historical import; once having been a part of the nation of Ithwhen, it was torn physically from it during a great battle and set adrift into the open ocean until it finally came to rest in shallow waters and as such, out of respect of its history, none of the three major nations of the world sought to absorb it. Rather, it had become a sort of middle ground for them and until recently, it had served as a neutral meeting grounds for them to gather and trade their wears without fear.
Character history:
Despite having a rough start to life, having lost his Father to a monster attack and the same incident forcing his younger brother to have to live in the capital of Grand Meridia with his grandfather, Zac had a fairly positive childhood past that. His mother was always there to care for him and to make sure his needs were met, the members of the town guard who his father had served with practically adopted the child and raised him with a strong sense of honor, and the town as a whole provided enough that Zac grew into a respectable young man...at least in most cases.
Even though his presence in Zac's life was intermittent at best, his uncle Raphaiel undoubtedly had the most profound influence on him. Being a master martial artist, Zac relentlessly pestered him every time he came through town to teach him the ways of his art and after some time, he eventually relented. The training was grueling to say the least and pushed the natural pain mitigation he received being under the favor of Kaladram, god of Fire and War to its very limits; for hours on end, he was forced to hold certain positions with more and more weight being added on his body until he couldn't endure it any longer until he could naturally bend and move his limbs in ways that would make most shudder.
Unfortunately, after bidding a farewell to leave before winter set in when Zac was 17, Raphaiel never again returned to the small town in the middle of the woods and Zac was left to continue his training based on what he'd learned over the course of 4 years.
3 years later, war came to Grand Meridia in the shape of a foe as old as the land itself and Zac was forced from his home after it barely survived an attack in an attempt to not only have aid sent to his home, but to make King Becklow aware of what was happening, if he wasn't aware already. It was this knowledge and of hearing exploits of Zac's exploits in helping nearby settlements with the invading army of corpses that lead to the King declaring the boy his official messenger; he was to report directly to the Five Dukes of the land and inform them that war was coming, a task he agreed to readily.
It was through this request that he brought together a band of warriors from throughout the land together and their efforts in undermining enemy plots earned them the moniker of the “Fang Vanguard”, a name they carried with them into the outright war that ensued when the Five Dukes were finally all alerted to the situation and brought the whole of their armies to bear. Under the orders of the King, the group took to their namesake in finally becoming an actual Vanguard and not only continued to bring down enemies from inside their own ranks, but even lead the charge in two major battles.
Eventually, through their efforts in conjunction with the Grand Meridian Army, the invading army was defeated and for their efforts in braving the dangers of fighting behind enemy lines, the Fang Vanguard were awarded the highest honors, even to the extent of being regarded as heroes by the people. Living true to his the title given to him by the people, Zac, the Vagabond Hero was soon pulled away by his intense wanderlust and now spends his days traveling across Altemera in search of his next great adventure.
Character personality:
Zac, at his core, can be described by the element he wields. Like fire his passion and intent burns bright, and once he gets started on something, he rarely lets himself be put out until he's completed what he's set out to do in one way or another. He is warm and gentle among his friends, often weaving stories of myth, lore, and his own travels into the air using his fire magic; among his enemies, he is swift and scorching, not content to leave a battle until his opponent is no longer moving.
By the same beat, he is also incredibly reckless, seeking the quickest means to his ends by whatever ways necessary; if there's a wall between his point A and point B, he is much quicker to go through the wall than he is to go around it. As well, he is stubborn and refuses to change his mind on something once he's set it, which gets him into trouble far more often than it solves anything; just because riding a catapult projectile over a wall is a BAD idea doesn't always mean for him that its an idea not worth indulging if its the quickest way to get over said wall.
His two most defining traits however are his almost unending curiosity and his unquenchable wanderlust, both of which continually feed into one another. Zac spent most of his life growing up in the middle of the woods which didn't give him much of a scope of the world; now that he's gotten a taste of what the world has to offer, there was no way he could ever simply pass up on the chance to see and experience more.
Powers/Abilities:
Fire Magic: Being under the favor of Kaladram, Zac has been able to control and produce fire for as long as he can remember.
(Pyrokinesis:) The most simple version of his power, Zac can summon forth fire from thin air, so long as there is oxygen in the air around him to combust; while in the rain, he can still use his magic, but it is severely hampered. Mostly though, Zac uses his fire magic to produce moving images to accompany his tales, adding extra flair to his storytelling and, at least in his opinion, enhancing the experience.
(Pain Mitigation:) Much the same way a warm shower or heating pad can wash pain away from the body, his fire magic too can relax his muscles and with its warmth, remove the pain of an injury from his mind so that he can more readily focus on the fight at hand. While useful, it is also dangerous as it may cause him to underestimate the severity of an injury or even outright ignore it until he succumbs to complications caused by it.
(Fire Resistance:) Being an embodiment of fire itself, Zac can no more be harmed by fire or heat than a volcano could. However, being engulfed in flames is still hazardous, as it will make breathing impossible for him; he can control fire, not wind after all.
Weapon Communion/Memory Imprinting: A skill wholly unique to Zac, at least to his knowledge, Zac had the ability to see, hear, and converse with the souls manifested by weapons. Through their use, weapons gather energy from their wielders and after enough time and energy has been poured into them, a weapon will take on a life of its own and more often than not, if you ask Zac, they are able to provide some of the best stories about their travels across the world with their owners. It is these memories that Zac can make an imprint of and through his magic, he can manifest those memories into his spear, allowing it to take the shape of that weapon.
However, this skill doesn't give Zac any real insight as to how to properly use the weapon, so while he may have a new weapon in hand, it is up to him to learn how to fight with it beyond wild flailing and hoping for the best.
Items on your character:
Eiskal: Once the spear belonging to his late father, Zac took it up once he came of age to join the town guard and quickly developed his own style in using it; rather than using it as a weapon he was wielding, he seamlessly melded each stroke and thrust into his own movements, using it as a true extension of his own body. Unlike most weapons, Eiskal has no “Soul” for Zac to commune with, or at least no soul that he's capable of communicating with; using his power, he can observe the visage of a woman, but he has never managed to actually speak with her.
The outside of the shaft would indicate that the spear was made from some manner of redwood that has been lacquered to a fine sheen and has thin strips of copper running along it, forming an earthen design meant to represent the endless sprawl of trees surrounding his hometown. However, the core of the spear and its tip are crafted from a crystalline material unique to Altemera, Seraphite. It is one of the few materials that can absorb, store, and rebound magical energy and is often used to make the equivalent of magical batteries that are used to power most of the technology found around the world.
As such, it is the ideal vessel for the memories Zac can imprint upon it and its malleable magical structure allows it to freely reshape itself to match each memory.
Mythril Chain Vest: Within Zac's vest is a light, chain weave of Mythril, a lightweight metal that carries the same defensive capabilities as a steel breastplate without weighting him down or restricting his movements.
Apart from those, he carries a traveling pack with basic traveling supplies of food and water and a hammock he can easily assemble and disassemble for sleeping needs.
